16 personality types built from your Big Five scores →
Your four core traits combine into a type code, such as EOWF for The Spark. Your emotional sensitivity adds a calm (-C) or sensitive (-S) suffix.
Big Five personality test vs. four-letter type tests
Both kinds of test can be fun and useful. The difference is in how they measure you.
Four-letter type tests
- Sort you into one of a few boxes
- Split people at a single cut-off point, so small differences can flip your type
- Easy to remember and share
This Big Five personality test
- Scores each trait from 0 to 100, so you see how much of each trait you have
- Built on the model most used in personality research
- Still gives you one of 16 types as a quick summary, and flags traits that are close to the middle
Who takes the Big 5 personality test?
People take a Big 5 personality test for all kinds of reasons. Here are the most common ones.
Students and psychology classes
The Big Five is the personality model taught in most psychology courses. Taking the test is the quickest way to understand openness, conscientiousness and the rest from the inside.
Career planning
Your scores hint at the work environments that suit you, from structured roles to fast-changing ones. Use them as a starting point for thinking about your next step.

Free personality test FAQs
Is this personality test really free?
Yes. The full 60-question test, your five trait scores, your personality type and your share card are free. There's no sign-up and no email required.
How long does the Big Five personality test take?
Most people finish the 60 statements in about 8 minutes. There's no time limit, and your progress is saved in your browser if you need a break.
What is the Big Five personality test?
It measures five broad traits that personality researchers use to describe how people differ: openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and emotional sensitivity (often called neuroticism). Together they're known as OCEAN.
How accurate is this free personality test?
It's a self-report test built in the style of public-domain research items, designed for self-reflection rather than clinical use. Your results are most accurate when you answer honestly, go with your first reaction and don't try to describe who you'd like to be.
Is the Big 5 personality test the same as the Big Five?
Yes. "Big 5", "Big Five", "five-factor model" and "OCEAN" all refer to the same five-trait model of personality.
Do you store my answers?
No. Your answers are scored in your browser and are never sent to our servers. Your scores are saved in your result link, so anyone you share the link with can see them.
How is this different from four-letter type tests?
Type tests put you into one of a few boxes. The Big Five scores each trait on a scale from 0 to 100, so it shows how much of each trait you have. We also give you one of 16 types as a quick summary, but your scores are the main result.
Can I retake the test?
Yes, as often as you like. Personality is fairly stable, but mood and circumstances can shift your answers a little from day to day.
